The ‘Money Heist: Korea’ Trailer Is Here to Stress You Out
Based on the Spanish hit La casa de papel, Money Heist: Korea — Joint Economic Area takes place in a near-future when North and South Korea are reuniting. In preparation for the peaceful event, the two countries decide to create a unified currency. As the new joint mint begins to print the money, a group of expert thieves from both regions team up to steal it in the biggest heist ever. Led by the Professor (Yoo Ji-tae), the group of strangers specialize in various crimes and name themselves after international cities in order to stay anonymous.
As depicted in the trailer, the beats of the series are similar to the original: The gang breaks into the mint, holds people hostage and prints their fortune while an official hostage negotiator tries to reason with them. But the prospect of a united Korea adds a distinctive layer to the story. And, as a bonus, we get to see Lost star Kim Yunjin act in her native language. (She plays the police negotiator who, in the original series, unknowingly embarks on a relationship with the thief she’s trying to catch.)
Directed by Kim Hong-sun (Voice, Black), Money Heist: Korea will debut in two parts starting June 24. ; Along with Yunjin, the series stars Park Hae-soo (Squid Game, Prison Playbook), Jeon Jong-seo (The Call, Burning) and more.
